Elementa II Teacher’s Manual and Presentations

30 lessons
6 months - 1 year

Elementa offers elementary and middle schools the opportunity to incorporate Latin into literacy instruction. Active learning materials and scripted lessons make the Elementa curriculum fun, engaging, and simple to use.

Through Elementa, we teach the basics of Latin grammar and vocabulary in such a way that Latin provides students with the tools to improve their mastery of English and Spanish (and other languages!), but an equally crucial goal of the curriculum is to expose students to Roman culture and inspire their curiosity for the ancient world at large.

This digital course is being updated as we prepare the teacher’s manual and materials for print. For a limited time only, the printed Teacher’s Manual and Materials for Elementa II will be included with the purchase of the digital manual.

The Elementa II Curriculum

Elementa II: Next Steps in Latin is a sequel to the first book in the series, Elementa I: Foundations for Latin. While the first book focuses on derivatives from Latin roots, parts of speech as the basic building blocks in a language, and Roman mythology, this sequel progresses with lessons focused on more intermediate Latin grammar and historical figures in Roman history. The sequel is also designed with a built-in review, so it is possible for students to start the series with Elementa II, or for a new student to join a class who all began their Latin journey with Elementa I the previous year.

The Elementa II textbook includes an introduction unit followed by eleven main units. Each unit is composed of three main Lessons: a grammar lesson, a culture lesson focused on a key element of ancient Roman society, and a history lesson centered on a historical figure who lived during a pivotal period of Roman history.

The Elementa I and Elementa II textbooks encompass content described in the American Classical League and National Junior Classical League National Latin Exam syllabus for Introduction to Latin, and upon completion of both books, students will be approaching intermediate level Latin proficiency.
