Parts of speech are different categories of words in a language. Each part plays a unique role and operate together in a sentence, like gears in a machine. There are eight basic parts of speech when you study English.

*Interrogatives are not a part of speech, but we included them here because they are a type of word you will encounter often, especially in the conversational vocabulary!
